Training: October training topics will be subject to change pending delivery of the new SCBA’s. The scheduled topics are Ventilation on the 6th and 20th and Rapid Intervention Crews with Smoke Drills on the 13th and 27th. Second topics are Portable Extinguishers on the 20th and Sprinkler Systems on the 27th. Saturday trainings will be Vehicle Fires and Drip Torches/Fusees.

Fire Prevention:  This is Fire Prevention Month. Remember to check your smoke detectors at home.

We will be providing a public ed. presentation at Grace Hudson School.  Volunteers are needed to participate. Contact Captain Haas for time and date.

There will also be a Pub. Ed. presentation October 9th at the Laws Avenue Health Clinic from 1100-1500 hours. Contact Captain Adair if you are able to assist with the Fire Safety trailer.

The Fire Expo is Saturday, October 1st at the Pear Tree center. A parade from the fairgrounds to the Expo will begin the festivities. Engines 88, 60, and 83 are entered in the parade. Volunteers are welcome to staff the engines for the parade & Expo.

T-Shirts: A new t-shirt designed by Vishnu Lustig is available for purchase now. The “Ukiah Valley Firefighters” shirt depicts the “blossom” (6488) driven by a dalmation in turnout gear.

Office Changes:  Due to changing needs of the District, an Administrative Secretary, Kelly Denham, will start Monday, October 3rd. She’ll work Monday through Friday 0900-1300 hours. This will be a 20 hour per week position. The 25 hour/week Clerk/Receptionist position formerly held by Maria Ruiz-Garcia has been eliminated as of Sept. 30th. Thank you to Maria for her service to the district.

FAE Assessment: An assessment center was put on Sunday September 25th for five volunteer candidates looking to promote to Fire Apparatus Engineer. The results will be announced after October 1st. Thank you to David LaFollette, Aaron Ball, Sara Paige and Tyler Sassen for their assistance with the assessment stations.

Apparatus: Engine 6460 has arrived and is in service.

The 1985 E-1 engine has been sold to a department in Pennsylvania for $34,000.
